On September 13th, 2022, the anime series Cyberpunk Edgerunners, set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077 and created by Studio Trigger, premiered on Netflix (official trailer shown below).[1]



The series follows the story of a "street kid" named David Martinez, a brilliant student forced by his debts to become an edgerunner, a mercenary outlaw.

Following its release, the series received positive reviews from critics and audiences. As of September 14th, 2022, on Rotten Tomatoes,[2] the series had an aggregated critics rating of 100 percent and an aggregated audience score of 95 percent. On IMDb,[3] the series had an average score of 8.7 out of 10 based on over 1,800 reviews.

Fandom

Following the release, the series inspired memes and discussions online. For example, on September 13th, 2022, voice actor Aleks Le (@AleksLeVO) made a tweet[4] about the JoJo Stand Cries reference in the anime, which received over 245,800 views, 3,000 retweets and 22,300 likes in one day (shown below).


Characters Lucy and Rebecca from the anime inspired fan art and waifu discussions online following its premiere. For example, on September 13th, 2022, Redditor[5] formosa posted an image of Lucy in the /r/cyberpunkgame subreddit, writing, "Forget about Panam & Judy, we now simping for Lucy."
