About and history
Clash Of Clans is a free to play village attack/defense game where you train troops and build defenses (and other buildings) to attack other villages and defend yours. You also join clans so that others can donate troops to you (that, unlike others, can defend too). It was published by a Finnish company called 'Supercell' and it was released on August 2nd 2012 on IOS and September 30th 2013 on Android.
Gameplay
In CoC, when you start out, you have a town hall, a builder hut, and a gold mine. You get other stuff like cannons, air defense, elixer, dark elixer and heroes (See them as 'mega' troops) later on. Successfull attacks and defends give you trophies which increase your rank and allows better bonusses. You join clans to get donated troops by clanmates and climb up the ranks. You can also attack the goblins for small amounts of gold and elixer to help that 'final push' to build/upgrade something. gems buy special items and boost production of spells, troops and currency.
Reception
Clash Of Clans sparked quite the community that post videos and screenshots of their villages and record any really good attacks/defenses. They also make many beginners guides to help newbies get in the game, strategies for both the novice and professional and even some fanmade media like music videos. It's widely considered one of the best IOS games and strategy games ever by the fans.
