Carpool Karaoke is a popular segment of the late-night television show The Late Late Show With Jame Corden which first aired in March of 2015. The segment features James Corden driving a musician around and singing their hits and/or favorite songs with them.

History

On March 26th, 2015, The Late Late Show with James Corden YouTube account uploaded the first segment of Carpool Karaoke featuring Mariah Carey (shown below). The video gained over 34.2 million views and 178,000 likes in five years.

On December 15th, 2015, the show uploaded "One Direction Carpool Karaoke" to YouTube and garnered over 152.4 million views in five years (shown below, left). On January 13th, 2016, The Late Late Show with James Corden uploaded its most popular video featuring Adele which accumulated over 210.4 million views and 2.6 million likes in four years (shown below, right).

Driving Controversy

On January 22nd, 2020, Twitter user @zolihonig tweeted a video of a car being towed with the caption, "Saw James corden and Justin Bieber filming carpool karaoke and this is why I have trust issues -- he isn't even driving!" (shown below). The tweet gained over 423,000 likes and 107,100 shares in two days.

The next day, Twitter users began reacting with surprise and frustration. Twitter user @ivysaysrawr[3] tweet an image of unenthused baby yoda driving with the caption, "James Corden pretending to be driving, but knowing damn well he’s just getting pulled by a damn truck I-" (shown below, left). The tweet received over 1,800 likes and 180 retweets in a day. Twitter user @nikkitbfh[4] responded with a picture of One Direction in a car with James Corden with the caption, "Y’all when I saw One Direction filming Carpool Karaoke James was actually driving 👀" (shown below, right). The tweet garnered over 10,300 likes and 50 retweets in a day. The next day, The Daily Dot[2] published an article on the controversy.

Takeoff's Carpool Karaoke Reaction refers to a series of image macros of American rapper Takeoff from the rap trio Migos looking at talkshow host James Corden while appearing on Corden's talkshow segment "Carpool Karaoke." On November 13th, 2018, the rap group Migos appeared on the regular segment "Carpool Karaoke" on The Late Late Show with James Corden. The video received more than 15 million views in six days.


The following day, Twitter [1] user @nayrache tweeted two screenshots of rapper Takeoff watching Corden during the segment. In the caption for the photographs, the Twitter user asked others to "Caption" the photographs. The post received more than 3,300 retweets and 23,000 likes in five days.
