"The Sign" was the length of four typical Bluey episodes and was described online as "emotional," with many parents commending the show online, while other internet users joked about adults being overly moved by a children's show.

Origin

On April 14th, 2024, the 28-minute long Bluey episode "The Sign" aired on ABC Kids Australia and subsequently on Disney streaming platforms globally. The episode showed Bluey and her family as they grapple with the prospect of selling their house and moving after Bluey's father Bandit receives a job offer in a different town. The episode is named after the "For Sale" sign on Bluey's lawn (trailer shown below).^[1]

Soon after the episode's release, numerous parents of children who watch Bluey with their kids shared their reactions to the episode. Many noted the episode's emotional complexity and asserted that it was at "another level" from other "toddler shows."

X^[2] user @JonComms made one such comment in the earliest post about the episode to go viral on X / Twitter, writing, "It's absolutely crazy to have this air with all the other toddler shows, it's on such a different level." Attached to the post is a video that shows Bluey's father Bandit lifting and throwing away the "For Sale" sign on their lawn, and their family reuniting back in their empty house. The post gathered over 9 million views and 38,000 likes in two days (seen below).

On April 15th, 2024, Redditor^[6] /u/y3rnaux posted a Do Men Even Have Feelings? meme about "The Sign" making men cry on /r/bluey, gathering over 1,000 upvotes in a day (seen below, right).

Various X users then mocked the emotional reactions expressed by adults toward the Bluey episode, with X^[4] user @VideoGabesA posting a still on April 15th, and expressing horror at the idea that Bluey died in the episode. The post gathered over 39,000 likes in a day (seen below, left). Also on April 15th, X^[3] user @hayasaka_aryan posted a meme about Bluey fans that gathered over 1,000 likes in a day (seen below, right).

On April 14th, 2024, X^[5] user @Kali_de_Armas posted a series of screenshots showing positive reactions to "The Sign" episode, writing, "what the fuck is happening???" followed by, "people seem to think my problem is with parents watching shows with their kids or adults enjoying kids shows and not with people having these kinds of insane reactions to it lmfao." The post received over 1 million views, 11,000 likes and 160 replies in two days (seen below).
