Bloxvox is the name of a device currently being promoted through a Kickstarter campaign that will smother your face in a soundproof muzzle so that one can have telephone conversations without disturbing others in a work environment. After CNET reported on the product, Twitter users reacted with jokes about the product's design, with many comparing it to the mask Bane wears in The Dark Knight Rises.
History
On May 20th, 2018, Greg Umhoefer launched a Kickstarter for the product.[1] As of May 23rd, 2018, it has raised $3,100 of its $25,000 goal with a July 20th end date.
Online Reactions
On May 22nd, CNET[2] published an article about the product, and tweeted about it on the 23rd (shown below).[3]
The tweet prompted strong responses from Twitter users making fun of the product. Many of the tweets compared the Bloxvox to the mask Bane wears in The Dark Knight Rises. User @flashboy made such a joke, gaining over 250 retweets and 930 likes (shown below, left). A similar joke by @danhevia gained over 83 retweets and 320 likes (shown below, right).
Other users joked about the mask being symptomatic of Late Capitalism, though these were less popular than the Bane jokes (examples shown below). Reactions to the Bloxvox were covered by Twitter Moments,[4] The Daily Dot,[5] and Syfy.[6]
