Big Brother Brazil is the Brazilian version of the Big Brother reality franchise. The TV show has been running since 2002 and is the most popular reality TV show in Brazil, consistently trending on social media with new memes about each new season over the years.

History

The Big Brother Brazil show is based on the original Dutch television series Big Brother[1] of the same name, created by John de Mol Jr[2] and broadcast in the Netherlands in 1999. The Brazilian[3] version debuted on January 29th, 2002, releasing news seasons every year from January to the end of April. The show also entered the Guinness World Records[4] for "the highest number of public votes achieved by a television program."

Reception

While the show is aired at a late hour, headlines, clips and snippets of the house are shared on the TV Globo channel, and the program has sustained a faithful fanbase over the years, becoming the most-watched[4] program on Brazilian television in 2022, with more than 155 million people following the program on TV Globo.

Online Presence

During the show's airing, between January and April, fans comment about their favorite moments on Twitter and other social media platforms, turning the show into a regular trending topic. On January 10th, 2023, Twitter user @whomath[5] described his excitement for the 2023 season of the program, thanking showrunner Boninho for the alienation the show will give him. The post, seen below, garnered 6,700 likes and 1,300 retweets in one day.

On January 16th, 2023, the new season of the show will premiere on TV Globo_. Prior to its release, fans were already creating memes on social media, like referencing the resemblance of the participant Manoel with the "_Modern Family":https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/subcultures/modern-family actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson. A post by Twitter[6] user @precisoassistir on January 10th, 2023 jokes about the similarity of the Brazilian with the American actor, and has garnered 24,400 likes and 4,400 retweets in one day.

Twitter[10] user @diegotoledox made fun of the new ensemble of participants, calling them the new cast of a Scooby-Doo live-action. His post received 28,700 likes and 2,800 retweets in one day (seen below).
