About

Awas Ada Sule is an Indonesian sitcom that began airing on GTV in 2008. The series is a mockumentary about a person named "Sule" who becomes a household servant for Bramantyo aka Tiyo's family. It became popular in Indonesia in 2020 after the Facebook Page "Template Awas Ada Sule" was created and many Indonesian users made memes from various clips in the show.

History

In 2008, Indonesian television station GTV started broadcasting the comedy show Awas Ada Sule, which was produced by Layar Production and E-Motion Entertainment.^[1] In the first episode, Sule (played by Entis Sutisna) goes to the city to find a job when he accidentally saves Tiyo's family from a robbery. In return, he becomes a household servant for the family.

On August 12th, 2016, the official GTV – Komedi YouTube^[2] channel uploaded episode one of Awas Ada Sule. The video received more than 2.5 million views, 15,000 likes and 1,400 comments in over four years (shown below).

Online Presence

Template Awas Ada Sule

Though the show went off the air in 2013, Awas Ada Sule continues to maintain an active online presence on Facebook and Twitter. In early November 2020, the Facebook^[3] page "Template Awas Ada Sule" (previously named "Every Awas Ada Sule Frame in Order"), which was inspired by Every Spongebob Frame In Order, was created by fans of the show.

The premise of the Facebook page operates under the same premise as other "Every X Frame in Order" pages, but some frames posted to the page were used as memes and redraw references by Indonesian users. For example, on November 5th, 2020, the Facebook^[4] page "Template Awas Ada Sule" uploaded a frame that looks similar to the Big Chungus meme. The post received more than 4,300 reactions and 1,100 shares in roughly three weeks (shown below).

On November 6th, 2020, Facebook^[5] user Isyraqi Adhitya uploaded an anime redraw of the character Kanjeng Mami (played by Maya Wulan) from a still of the show (original shown below, left). The redraw received more than 4,300 reactions and 5,100 shares in about three weeks (shown below, right).

Tiyo Praise Kanjeng Mami refers to an exploitable image series in which Tiyo (played by Hikmal Abrar) praises a photo of Kanjeng Mami in front of him during the show. It was used as a redraw reference and exploitable by changing the original photo (shown below, left). For example, on November 5th, 2020, the Facebook^[6] page njir momen uploaded an edited version by changing Kanjeng Mami's photo to Garok. The post received 361 reactions and 74 shares in roughly two weeks (shown below, center). The next day, Facebook^[7] user Hastete uploaded Genshin Impact fan art using the original image as a reference. The post received 583 reactions and 728 shares in roughly three weeks (shown below, right).

Placing Kanjeng Mami Photo

Placing Kanjeng Mami Photo refers to an exploitable image series when Sule, Makmur (Played by Ery Makmur) and Tiyo attempt to place Kanjeng Mami's photo before she arrives at Tiyo's house. In memes, it is used as a redraw reference and exploitable. For example, on November 15th, 2020, Facebook^[8] user Mukhlis uploaded an image by changing Kanjeng Mami's photo to the character Ritsu from the game Arcaea (shown below).
