Asterix (aka The Adventures of Asterix) is a series started from French comic. It portrays adventures of Gauls, mainly Asterix himself, his friend Obelix. Described events happen in 50 BC, as Gauls resist Roman invasion. Almost all Gaul fell, but one village held because their druid could brew potion greatly increasing villager's strength.
Origin
Series first appeared in french magazine named Pilote on 29 October 1959.[2] It was written by René Goscinny and illustrated by Albert Uderzo. In 1961 first book was finished and titled Asterix the Gaul.
Spread
First book sold 6000 copies in the year of piblication, second one sold 20000 copies, third 40000 and fourth sold 150000. Ninth book sold 1.2kk copies in only 2 days. As the result of success 9 cartoons, 4 films, board games and more than 20 videogames.
Reception
Popularity resulted in big influence on the culture. French satelites were named in honor of Asterix and Obelix[1], Asterix and Obelix are official mascots of 2017 Ice Hockey Championship, Google had Asterix Doodle. They also appeared on the cover of Time.
