About

ARMS is a fighting video game announced by Nintendo for the Nintendo Switch releasing on June 16th, 2017.

Gameplay

ARMS[4] differentiates itself from other fighting games by allowing up to four players to choose a fighter and battle using a wide variety of extendable arms to knock out opponents in a three-dimensional arena. Players can use either the Switch's Joy-con controllers or standard controllers to participate.

History

Arms was first announced during the initial reveal of the Nintendo Switch on January 12, 2017.[1] Upon its release, it was compared to the boxing minigame from Wii Sports. The Independent[2] called it one of the most impressive displays of gameplay following a Switch hands-on event.

Fandom

The initial reveal of the game has met with an overwhelmingly positive response, leading to the creation of a bevy of fan art. It has also led to the creation of parody image macros in which the title "ARMS" is replaced with various other body parts. There is also a dedicated subreddit[3] to the game with over 1,700 followers.

Over the next day, it tweet received upwards of 31,000 likes and 16,800 retweets. On May 18th, Redditor ximca submitted a screenshot of the tweet to /r/gaming,[6] where it gathered more than 41,000 points (86% upvoted) and 1,300 comments within 12 hours.
