An Emmy for Megan is a comedy web series about writer and comedian Megan Amram's pursuit of the Emmy award for "Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series." The show parodies the campaigning for and interest in entertainment awards as the show features Amram attempting to create award-worthy drama as her co-stars point out that she is only interested in the award.

History

On April 23rd, 2018, Megan Amram tweeted [1] a "For Your Consideration" poster for An Emmy for Megan. The post features a large, gold award and several images of Amram crying. The post (shown below) received more than 50 retweets and 2,100 likes in three months.

Three days later, Amram published all six episodes of the series An Emmy for Megan(shown below, left) on Vimeo. Within two months, the first video (shown below, left) received more than 82,000 views.

On June 5th, Amram tweeted[2] an image of a billboard advertising the series. The post (shown below) received more than 360 retweets and 8,000 likes in less than two months.



Reception

Fans of Amram praised the tactic and joined in the campaign. BuzzFeed writer Kate Arthur tweeted[3] on August 26th, "If this campaign to win an Emmy by @meganamram works, it will be the greatest troll of all-time. Enjoy it! http://anemmyformegan.com." The post (shown below, left) received more than 30 likes.

Over the next several months, fans of the series and the comedian encouraged Emmy voters to vote for the series (examples below, center and right).

On July 12th, Megan Amram's series was nominated for two Emmy awards: outstanding actress in a shortform comedy or drama and outstanding shortform comedy or drama.[4]

That day, Amram tweeted[5] the announcement and a picture of her crying. She captioned the pictures, "It worked." She followed the post by adding, "HANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU sincerely from the bottom of my heart to everyone who is celebrating #AnEmmyForMegan today. But remember: it's not called #TwoNominationsForMegan, it's called #AnEmmyForMegan. Because what matters is that trophy. SEE YOU ON THE WINNER'S PODIUM/STAGE." The posts (Shown below) received more than 2,500 retweets and 36,000 likes, collectively, in 24 hours.
