About
Ace Combat is Bandai Namco's long running flight simulation arcade series revolving around military aircraft battles where players sortie in numerous different jets, including attacker, multirole, fighter and bomber jets, simulating an unrealistic but gameplay-focused flight arcade game.
History
The original Ace Combat was titled Air Combat[1] and was first released in arcades in 1992. It was ported to Playstation in 1995. The game employed "semi-realistic" physics and allowed for an impossible amount of missiles to be utilized by players.
There have been 18 total releases in the series, with unique games developed for each platform, save for Ace Combat: Assault Horizon, which was released for for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Microsoft Windows. 2006's Ace Combat: The Belkan War notably used live-action actors (shown below, left). Character Larry Foulke from that game would go on to be used in memes related to the game. Upcoming game Ace Combat 7: Skies Unkown, set for release in 2018, will also be released on multiple platforms.[2] Most of the games take place in an Earth-like world called Strangereal (shown below, right).
