Stuns In New Photo is a catchphrase most often associated with the pop culture news and gossip X / Twitter account Pop Crave, who regularly use it when sharing a new selfie or photograph of a celebrity. Pop Crave has used variations of the phrase as a phrasal template since as early as May 2018 and continued to use them throughout the 2020s, occasionally inspiring memes and reactions online. Since then, the phrase has been adopted for use by similar pop culture accounts, including Pop Base and Pop Tingz.

Origin

The earliest relevant use of a variation of the phrase "stuns in new photo" was posted by X^[1] account @PopCrave on May 5th, 2018, garnering over 10,000 likes in six years. The post shares two photographs of Ariana Grande and is captioned, "ArianaGrande stuns in new set of Instagram photos. 🙌🔥." The account continued to use the phrasing in similar posts over the following years, often abbreviating the phrase and simply writing "X stuns in new photo" alongside the photo.^[2]

Pop Crave and other pop culture social media accounts continued to use the phrasing throughout the 2020s, inspiring memes using the phrase. On October 14th, 2023, Redditor u/Uplanapepsihole posted a photo of Ariana Grande with an elderly woman and another man to /r/popheadscirclejerk,^[3] titling it, "madonna stuns in new selfie with ariana grande and ethan slater," garnering over 800 upvotes in a year.

On April 7th, 2024, X^[4] page @ThePopTingz posted two selfies of Madonna, writing, "Madonna stuns in new selfies," garnering over 1,400 likes in six months. On July 16th, Instagram^[5] user indigotohell posted a video where he puts on makeup to resemble Madonna in the selfies, followed by an edit of himself replacing Madonna in the post, garnering over 20,000 likes in the same span of time.

On October 13th, X^[6] page @PopCrave posted a photo of musician Bladee, captioning it with the phrase, garnering over 9,000 likes in three days. Later that day, X^[7] user @gemeloaphex quote-reposted the post with a piece of art depicting Michael Jackson in a shemagh scarf, suggesting the two images look similar, garnering over 114,000 likes in the same span of time.

On October 15th, the @PopCrave X^[8] account wished a happy birthday to Vincent Martella, the voice of Phineas in Phineas and Ferb. That day, Martella quote-reposted the X^[9] post, writing, "it’s my birthday but did i stun in new photo? please pop crave tell me I stunned its all i want for my birthday," garnering over 467,000 likes in a day.
