Study Finds 100 Percent of Men Would Immediately Leave Their Desk Job refers to a series of exploitable image macro memes that imagine 100 percent of men would quit their job if offered to embark on an expedition, adventure or quest, such as a trans-Atlantic expedition. Spawned by a viral satirical article by The Babylon Bee, the format spread online in 2023 and 2024 with meme creators replacing "Embark Upon A Trans-Antarctic Expedition On A Big Wooden Ship" in the original headline with other things men would quit their jobs to do.
Origin
On August 14th, 2023, the satirical news website The Babylon Bee[1] posted an article titled, "Study Finds 100% Of Men Would Immediately Leave Their Desk Job If Asked To Embark Upon A Trans-Antarctic Expedition On A Big Wooden Ship," which jokingly stated that 100 percent of men on Earth would immediately abandon their job to join a dangerous voyage across the Antarctic.
On August 15th, The Babylon Bee shared the article on its official X[2] account, where it garnered over 280 reposts and 3,100 likes in one year (shown below).
On August 30th, 2023, the Instagram[3] account staythecourse_ posted a snippet of the article (shown below), which garnered over 7,900 likes in one year. In 2023 and 2024, the snippet was widely circulated online through reposts.
Spread
On September 10th, 2023, the X[4] account @trad_west_ posted the earliest meme based on the article, changing the original image to a GigaChad edit. The post (shown below) received over 70 reposts and 980 likes in one year.
On February 3rd, 2024, the X[5] account @GigaBasedDad made a repost that received over 540 reposts and 10,000 likes in nine months.
In 2024, X user @Trad_West_ and other accounts posted more memes based on the format, altering the headline and the image. For example, on April 10th, Instagram[6] user dc_andrade posted a welding meme based on the format that gained over 670 likes in seven months (shown below).
On May 21st, 2024, the X[7] account @historyinmemes posted a video caption meme based on the format created by an unknown user (shown below). The post garnered over 2,800 reposts and 33,000 likes in six months.
