About

Struggle Tweets refer to a type of novelty Twitter accounts collecting tweets written by people who find themselves in a position of a certain struggle and tweets in which a person inadvertently reveals something compromising about themselves.

Origin

On November 24th, 2015, Twitter[1] account @Struggle_Tweet (Struggle Tweets) was created, posting[2] a screenshot of a tweet by @sadhistorymajor on the same day.

Spread

The account did not start actively posting until December 20th, 2015. Starting on that day, @Struggle_Tweet has been posting screenshots of tweets[3][4] depicting short stories of a certain struggle (examples shown below, left and right).

@Struggle_Tweet accumulated over 602,100 followers in five years, inspiring multiple similar accounts created for the purposes of collecting "struggle tweets" within dedicated communities such as K-pop fandom, video game fandoms, anime fandoms etc.
For example, on July 27, 2017, Twitter[5] account @kpopstruggletwt (kpop struggle tweets) was created for the purposes of collecting "struggle tweets" written by K-pop stans (example post shown below, left). On January 29, 2020, Twitter[6] account @JojoStruggleTwT (Struggle Tweets: Jojo Edition) was created (example post shown below, right).

On Twitter, a post ending up on a "struggle tweets" account is generally considered undesirable for the poster, which has been a subject of memes on the platform.[7]
