Strongest Soldier vs. Sinner, also known as We're Gonna Kill You, is an object-labeling meme format based on a SpongeBob SquarePants frame of Squidward mocking a child captioned with the phrase "we're gonna kill you." In the format, Squidward and the child are labeled "Me (X's Strongest Soldier)" and "Y (Sinner)," with the format often used to mock stans beginning in early 2022.

Origin

The meme format is based on an older 2019 image caption format "You have no skills and you're a loser," which is based on a still frame and a quote from episode 64a, titled "Skill Crane," from season four of SpongeBob SquarePants.^[1] In the episode, Squidward finally manages to pull a teddy bear from a crane machine and mocks a child about losing the game right after him (scene shown below, left; examples shown below, center and right).

On December 15th, 2020, iFunny^[2] user ridetheincubus posted the earliest found recaptioned meme based on the image macro (authorship unconfirmed; shown below, left). The post gained over 3,400 smiles on iFunny and has widely been used as a reaction image on the app since.

On January 16th, 2022, Instagram^[3] account cyberfiend666 posted a recaptioned meme in which Squidward and the kid were labeled "Me (Fauci's Strongest Soldier) and "Unvaxxed 5 yo (sinner)," with the image also captioned "We're gonna kill you" (shown below, right). The authorship of the image is currently unconfirmed. The phrase "strongest soldier" is borrowed from the Stop Giving Me Your Toughest Battles Wojak comic format.

In the following weeks, the meme was widely reposted online. For example, on January 18th, 2022, Tumblr^[4] user kushblazer666 reposted the image, with the psot gaining over 2,400 likes and reblogs in two months. On February 3rd, Twitter^[5] user @nikthealbanian reposted the image, with the tweet accumulating over 1,800 retweets and 22,300 likes in three months.

On January 18th, 2022, Twitter^[6] user @ChimesCollector posted the earliest known derivative meme based on the format, a League of Legends meme about a skin for the character Sona, which received over 70 retweets and 510 likes in roughly three months (shown below, left). On January 21st, Instagram^[7] meme page unfriendlymemepage posted an Attack on Titan remake of the image that gained over 8,900 likes in three months (shown below, left).

Starting in early February 2022, the format acheived notable virality online as more object-labeling memes based on it were posted on iFunny, Reddit, Facebook and other platforms. For example, on February 16th, 2022, Redditor^[8] EastJesusNowhere_ posted a The Binding of Isaac meme that gained over 2,200 upvotes in the /r/bindingofisaac subreddit in two months (shown below, left). On February 19th, Twitter^[9] user @RealYouTubeKids posted a Reddit Moment meme that gained over 350 retweets and 4,100 likes in the same period (shown below, center). On February 21st, Twitter^[10] user @ShitpostGate posted a Mug Root Beer meme that received over 4,400 retweets and 36,600 likes, going viral in the following days (authorship unconfirmed; shown below, right).

In the following weeks, the meme format achieved major spread online, with more viral memes based on it appearing in March and April 2022. The format has also often been used in Drunk Driving memes.
