About
Stroke That Thing Cuzzo, also written Stroke That Thang Cuzzo, refers to a phrase shouted in a viral video from an over-enthusiastic and suspect crowd member (presumably the player's cousin) at a high school basketball game just before the player shoots a 3-pointer. The oddly sexual encouragement went viral as a TikTok sound in December 2022. The sound was used similarly to the "ignore my dad" sound as in TikTokers pretended that it was their original video and their own zesty cousin. TikTokers also began shouting the phrase at their own basketball games in real life.
Origin
On December 5th, 2022, TikToker[1] djstackinchecks posted a video from a high school basketball game in which a player shoots a three-point basket, however, just before releasing the ball, an unknown crowd member (presumably the player's cousin) shouts "Stroke that thing, Cuzzo!" After the ball goes through the hoop, a high-pitched scream can be heard from the same crowd member. Over the course of nine days, the TikTok received roughly 455,800 plays and 94,800 likes (shown below).
Spread
Shortly after the original video was posted on December 5th, multiple TikTokers used the sound by pretending that the audio was uttered at their basketball games or other sporting events, similar to the "ignore my dad" trend in mid-2022. For instance, on December 5th, 2022, TikToker[2] .ulovekp used the sound with text overlay reading, "my bad yall my cousins a lil zesty," gaining roughly 623,400 plays and 117,000 likes in nine days (shown below, left). On December 7th, 2022, TikToker[3] thefro.1 stripped the audio and posted their own video, gaining roughly 1.3 million plays and 180,100 likes in one week (shown below, right).
Thereafter, many creators used the sounds[4][5] from TikToker jstackinchecks' video and TikToker thefro.1's video. Going into December 2022, the sound was used by larger sports accounts on the app. For instance, on December 6th, 2022, the TikTok[6] account House of Highlights used the audio, gaining roughly 1.3 million plays and 223,700 likes in eight days. On December 11th, 2022, the official TikTok[7] account of the Overtime basketball league team The Cold Hearts used the sound and joked about Adin Ross being the cameraman, gaining roughly 678,500 plays and 94,100 likes in three days (shown below).
On December 9th, 2022, TikToker[8] jayden__main__ posted his own ""stroke that thing Cuzzo"" video, saying it in real life at his high school basketball game just before a free throw. Over the course of five days, the TikTok received roughly 476,400 plays and 112,400 likes (shown below, left). In the days that followed, multiple other TikTokers shouted "Stroke that thing Cuzzo!" in their own viral videos, like TikToker[9] tanner_hoffman15 on December 11th, 2022, who received roughly 3.6 million plays and 881,500 likes in three days (shown below, right).
