Stresscore, sometimes written as Stress Core, is an aesthetic TikTok -core in which stressful video clips, often from cartoons like SpongeBob SquarePants, are set to remixed songs that heavily feature bongo drums, meant to make the experience of watching the video stressful. The aesthetic was started in mid-August 2024 and popularized on TikTok in September of that year, with examples of stresscore often being set to a remix of the Twenty One Pilots song "Ride" by TikToker and producer @lipe7music. Another prevalent stresscore song is a remix of "Viva La Vida" by Coldplay. There are often debates over whether or not stresscore remixes are actually Brazilian funk remixes.

Origin

It is unconfirmed when exactly the term "stresscore" was coined. The earliest known mention of the term was posted by TikToker @iamblessed41 on August 26th, 2024, as a comment, writing, "Stress core 😍," in response to an August 14th, 2024, video by TikToker^[1] @luinzb7 in which he plays a compilation of Grand Theft Auto V footage over a song remix that heavily features drums, garnering over 1.1 million views in a month.

The stresscore aesthetic became increasingly popularized throughout late August and September 2024. Typically, the aesthetic features video clips that give off a stressful vibe when combined with similar drum-heavy remixes of songs.

On August 26th, 2024, TikToker^[2] @sanca.morinyo posed a stresscore video featuring SpongeBob SquarePants footage over a drum-heavy remix of "Ride" by Twenty One Pilots, produced by TikToker^[3] @lipe7music, garnering over 1.6 million views in two weeks. SpongeBob footage would go on to be a common theme in future stresscore videos.

On August 29th, TikToker^[4] @huguebas posted a video of a dryer running with several products on top of it, using the hashtag "#stresscore," set to a "Viva La Vida" remix, garnering over 1.2 million views in two weeks. On August 30th, TikToker^[5] @microplasticcat posted a stresscore edit using a remix of "Symphony" by Zara Larsson, garnering over 400,000 views in two weeks.

On September 6th, 2024, TikToker^[6] @jordom posted a stresscore edit set to the "Ride" remix using footage from SpongeBob, garnering over 2.3 million views in six days. On September 9th, TikToker^[7] @harveysmain.078 posted a similar edit, garnering over 3.1 million views in three days.
