Stop It, Boner is an exploitable computer reaction image featuring an illustration of a man sitting at a desk while engaging in a dialogue with an unwanted erection.

Origin

On December 6th 2010, a two-panel comic featuring a man looking at his computer screen in dismay before looking at a bulging erection in his pants was submitted by an anonymous user to the /a/ (anime and manga) board[1] on 4chan (shown below, left). On June 8th, 2011, a cropped version of the second panel was submitted to /tg/,[2] featuring the man saying "Stop it, boner" to his bulge which retorts "no" (shown below, right).

Spread

On April 7th, 2012, a Facebook[12] page titled "Stop it, boner" was launched. On June 27th, the cropped version of the comic was submitted by Redditor Not_Nat in a post titled "When my ex sends me drunk texts" on the /r/funny[10] subreddit, where it gained over 1,500 votes (90% upvoted) and 160 comments prior to being archived. On the following day, the same image was posted on the "Dating Fails" Cheezburger site.[8] On June 1st, 2013, FunnyJunk[11] user spastic puppet responded to a post with an edited version featuring the speech text "you've gone too far this time, boner" (shown below, left). In the same post, FunnyJunk user sprudlebass posted another edited comic in which the man says "No boner, this shit does not fucking fly," to which is bulge respond "Shut up and touch me" (shown below, right).

On March 31st, 2014, TVTropes[9] user ironballs16 added the "Stop it, boner" illustration to a list of online examples for the "Strangely Arousing" trope.

"Why, Boner?"

Two other comics featuring men talking to unwanted erections have surfaced on 4chan. On August 14th, 2010, an illustration of a man saying "Why boner" to a defiant crotch was submitted to a plus4chan thread about the Avatar franchise.[3] On March 24th, 2011, a two-panel comic featuring a stick figure looking at a computer screen in disbelief before asking his erection "Why boner?" was submitted to /tg/[4] (shown below, right).
