Stoogeposting refers to memes that use videos and photographs of the mid-twentieth century vaudeville and comedy troupe The Three Stooges and accompany them with dialogues written in their signature style but adapted to the modern internet culture. Originating from a viral tweet, Stoogeposting gained popularity on Twitter and other platforms in mid-May 2021.

Origin

The Three Stooges were an American vaudeville and comedy troupe active from 1922 until 1970, best known for their short comedy films (compilation video shown below).[1] The four core members of the troupe, which changed its roster over the years, are the brothers Moe, Larry and Shemp Howard and Larry Fine.

On May 11th, 2021, content creator Solid JJ posted a voiced Candice Who meme in the form of a Three Stooges skit (shown below). The post received over 244,700 views, 10,200 retweets and 41,400 likes on Twitter,[2] 23,300 views on Instagram[3] and 4,000 views on YouTube[4] in one week.

On May 12th, 2021, Twitter[5] user @Bickpixx made another humorous post that combined Deez Nuts type baits with a "Slowly I Turned" routine by The Three Stooges (shown below). The post received over 30 retweets and 130 likes.

On May 13th, Solid JJ posted[6] an Among Us shitpost that gained over 223,200 views, 9,000 retweets and 36,900 likes on Twitter in one week (shown below).

Later on May 13th, Solid JJ tweeted,[7] "new genre unlocked: stooge-posting." In the following days, Solid JJ and other voice actors on Twitter and YouTube posted videos that combined images and videos of The Three Stooges with dialogues written in the style of the troupe, with image macro and other memes also being posted.
