STFU Freeze Frame is a viral TikTok trend where creators lip sync to the 2022 hip-hop song "STFU" by British rapper Digga D and pose for a black-and-white freeze frame filter during the chorus while giving a middle finger to the camera. The trend initially grew in virality in July 2022 and continued into the following months with a different version becoming popularized in August where people recorded themselves singing the song and another person covering their mouth with their hand as the "shut the fuck up" lyric played.

Origin

On July 7th, 2022, rap artist Digga D uploaded the official music video to his track "STFU" on YouTube.^[1] The upload gathered over 2 million views as of September 2022 (seen below).

On July 18th, 2022, TikToker^[2] @_bxpaula posted a video featuring her and her friends lip-syncing to the track and posing for the TikTok black-and-white freeze frame filter. The post gathered over 21,000 views and 1,000 likes in nearly one month (seen below).

Spread

On July 20th, 2022, TikToker^[3] @kaymonae.x_ uploaded a video of her and her friend participating in the trend as it continued spreading on the platform in the following days. The video accumulated over 17,000 likes and 100,000 views in nearly one month (seen below).

Digga D himself then hopped onto the trend as well, posting a video to his official TikTok^[4] account, @pyr3xlving, gathering over 2 million plays and 200,000 likes in nearly a month since its upload on July 24th, 2022 (seen below).

On August 12th, 2022, TikToker^[5] @mollyandjordy posted a video that popularized the later form of the trend, with the user recording herself as her partner held his hand over her face and gestured at the camera during the "STFU" portion of the song. The upload garnered nearly 8 million plays and over 1 million likes in three weeks (seen below).
