About

#StayAtHomeChallenge is a viral challenge for soccer players to upload their solo practice routines at home. The challenge which began in March 2020 following the coronavirus, began trending on Twitter, Instagram and TikTok with videos of professional soccer players at home juggling a roll of toilet paper like a soccer ball.

Origin

On March 15th, 2020, Twitter user @tomthom11 tweeted, "Stay at home challenge! I’m sure there are a lot of youth soccer players out there not able to practice like they would normally. Here are some fun skills I used to work on at home. Send me videos once you get them down and I’ll share them. Stay positive and get to practicing! 💪🏻" (shown below). The tweet gained over 1,600 likes and 300 retweets in three days.

Spread

On March 15th, 2020, TikToker @433 uploaded "Matthijs de Ligt doing the #stayathomechallenge" which garnered over 61,000 likes in three days (shown below, left). On March 17th, TikToker @alahly uploaded a #stayathomechallenge video which received over 45,600 likes in a day.

That same day, Twitter account @SJEarthquakes uploaded a video of a child performing the #StayAtHomeChallenge (shown below). The tweet accumulated over 140 likes in a day.

On March 17th, Instagram user and soccer player strikers_lauro uploaded a video of himself completing the #stayathomechallenge and gained over 3,000 likes in a day (shown below). StayHipp[1] published an article on the trend.
