About

SpongeBob SpongeBob, Patrick Patrick, or, SpongeBob "All The Small Things" Cover refers to a viral video and song cover of Blink-182's "All The Small Things." The video uses footage from a viral TikTok video posted in September 2021 of someone showing off SpongeBob SquarePants figurines lined up on top of a door frame. The TikTok audio was mashed into a song cover posted to YouTube in October 2021. The song cover was then remixed into memes on iFunny and TikTok starting in October 2021.

Origin

On August 5th, 2021, YouTuber SAWNDIR posted a video edit of an MTV2 Video Mod[12] SpongeBob Squarepants animated music video set to "All The Small Things" by Blink-182. In the video, he edits the audio so he melodically sings the name of each character as they appear to the tune of the song, although without a backing track, gaining over 88,000 views in three months (shown below, left). The idea for the mash-up was inspired by a resurfaced video[6] from a 2005 segment of MTV2's series Video Mods. The video is of a CGI SpongeBob scene where all the characters are dancing to "All The Small Things." The video (shown below, right) was uploaded to YouTube[7] on July 16th, 2021, and received roughly 374,100 views over the course of three months.

On September 10th, TikToker[1] @boyd_skyler posted a video where he moves the camera down a line of SpongeBob figurines as he says different buzzwords or catchphrases from the show, moving to each one. The last figurine in the line-up he identifies as the Fortnite cube, Kevin. The TikTok (shown below) received roughly 6.2 million plays and 1.5 million likes over the course of one month.

The video received notable attention on TikTok in the coming days, mostly in the form of duets. For instance, TikToker[2] @wyattmatterz uploaded a duet with the video on September 10th, 2021. His TikTok (shown below) received roughly 400,000 plays and 71,300 likes. On September 11th, 2021, iFunnier[3] @Unfunnyantisocialman uploaded the original TikTok to iFunny and received roughly 1,100 smiles over the course of one month.

On October 7th, YouTuber[4] MachoShacho uploaded a video titled "All the SpongeBobs (All The Small Things) Meme." In the video, MachoShacho tunes the audio from the SAWNDIR's video into a melody matching the chorus of the song "All The Small Things" by Blink-182. He then put the Blink-182 instrumental behind the audio. The video (shown below) received roughly 7,400 views over the course of 11 days.

MachoShacho's video was reposted to iFunny[5] by iFunnier @B1k1n1BottomTw1tter on October 8th, 2021. The video received 845 smiles over the course of 10 days. The mash-up song and videos associated with it began to be used in memes on iFunny[8][9] going into the rest of October 2021.

In early November 2021, TikTokers began to use original sounds consisting of edited versions of SAWNDIR's audio without the backing track to "All The Small Things," simply consisting of him repeating the names of the SpongeBob characters in the line-up. For example, on November 10th, TikToker @sewerzi posted a video with the audio sped-up showing the SpongeBob lineup over text reading "is it just me but when ur alone u do random embarrassing things then regret it right after and pretend nothing happened," gaining over 361,000 views in six days (shown below, left). Its original sound gained over 1,900 uses in under a week in videos playing off the original, showing various images or items to represent each character (example shown below, right).[10]

On November 13th, 2021, YouTuber[11] TokPlugg posted a compilation of the videos. On November 14th, TikToker @robloxexploitfling posted a version of the video using the audio over a lineup of the 3D models of each character, gaining over 1.9 million views in two days (shown below).

On November 16th, Lessons In Meme Culture posted a video explaining the origins of the meme, gaining over 74,000 views in less than 24 hours (shown below).
