SpongeBob Showing an Apple is a series of redraw memes based on an image of a SpongeBob SquarePants Roblox avatar offering or showing an apple to the viewer from a first person POV perspective. The video was shared on X / Twitter in late April 2024 and became the subject of redraws in May after another user reposted a screenshot of it, asking users to draw their OC or comfort characters offering an apple.

Origin

On April 30th, 2024, X^[1] user @makohog_ posted a video of Roblox footage that beings with a player using a SpongeBob skin offering an apple to the camera, writing, "I love this video so much," garnering over 78,000 likes in a week (shown below).

On May 2nd, X^[2] user @RlFLESCYTHE quote-reposted the post with a screenshot of SpongeBob offering the apple to the camera, writing, "guys. new challenge! draw this frame with your oc or comfort character," garnering over 8,400 likes and 2,400 reposts in a week (shown below).

Spread

The image became the subject of redraws over the following days. Some of the earliest examples were posted as comments to the X^[3] post by @RIFLESCYTHE on May 3rd, 2024. That day, the redraws also spread to Tumblr. For example, that day, Tumblr^[4] user cheatsykoopa98 posted a redraw of Pomni showing an apple that garnered over 230 likes in five days (shown below).

On May 4th, X^[5] user @basilries posted a redraw of Gordon Freeman from Half-Life showing a snark, garnering over 1,500 likes in four days (shown below, left). On May 6th, X^[6] user @ItsGerdew posted a redraw of Ralsei from Deltarune with an apple, garnering over 10,000 likes in two days (shown below, right).

On May 7th, Instagram^[7] user kirbypopstar posted a redraw of the image depicting Sonic the Hedgehog showing an apple, garnering over 8,600 likes in a day (shown below, left). On the same day, X^[8] user @kneexho posted a Delicious in Dungeon redraw that gained over 30,000 likes in the same span of time (shown below, right).
