Spinning Hideo Kojima refers to a clip of Japanese video game designer Hideo Kojima rotating and standing still while his body is being scanned for a 3D model. Posted by Kojima on X / Twitter in mid-December 2024, the clip inspired edits and caption memes in the following days.
Origin
On December 13th, 2024, Japanese game designer Hideo Kojima posted a video of himself spinning in place on a rotating platform as his 3D scan was being taken for the upcoming video game Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet by Naughty Dog. The video (shown below) received over 11.8 million views, 7,900 reposts and 75,000 likes on X[1] in two days.

Following the post, users captioned the video with various jokes, many of them likening Hideo Kojima spinning to food being heated inside a microwave. For example, on December 13th, 2024, X[2] user @Amanseeks captioned the clip, "Microwaving Hideo Kojima," with the post (shown below) gaining over 12,000 reposts and 200,000 likes in two days.
In the following days, users posted edits of the video which referenced various film and video game scenes. For example, a Mortal Kombat edit posted by X[3] user @Murdoink on December 13th, 2024, gained over 6,400 reposts and 43,000 likes in one day (shown below).
More edits and caption memes based on the video were shared on X / Twitter and YouTube in mid-December 2024.
