Spiky Kanye refers to several images of rapper Kanye West dressed in a black spiky Balenciaga suit during the release event of his tenth studio album Donda. Photographs of West wearing the suit gained popularity as source material for memes, primarily photoshops.

Origin

On August 5th, 2021, before the second listening party of his tenth studio album Donda, Kanye West appeared on a livestream from his room at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium dressed in a spiky Balenciaga suit (still images shown below).^[1]

Spread

On the same day, multiple users on social media posted photographs of West in the suit. For example, posts by Twitter^[2]^[3] accounts @hellokittycrocs and @PhotosOfKanye received 350 retweets and 3,500 likes and 1,400 retweets and 11,000 likes in one day, respectively.

Starting on August 5th, photographs of West wearing the suit became a subject of humorous edits. For example, on that day Twitter^[4] user @sikretro posted a meme that gained over 120 retweets and 1,100 likes in one day (shown below, left). Twitter^[5] user @killthenoise posted a Dark Souls edit that received over 350 retweets and 1,800 likes in the same period (shown below, right).

On August 5th and August 6th, several viral edits of the image were posted on Twitter^[6] and Facebook.^[7]
