About
Spider-Man Twerking on a Stoplight refers to a viral video of a man dressed in a Spider-Man costume twerking and dancing atop a traffic light. First achieving viral status on Twitter, the video has subsequently been used in edits on Instagram and other online platforms.
Origin
Starting in late May 2019, dancer Quincy Nelson, dressed in a Spider-Man costume, made a series of outdoor performances in Las Vegas, San-Francisco, Hollywood and other United States cities, performing various dances on the city streets, including dances performed atop traffic lights.[1][2] Numerous recordings of Nelson dancing were posted online by various users, including a June 29th, 2019, post by Twitter user @Juustinaaaa which gained over 13.7 million views in two months.[3] In the video, set to "Apple Bottom Jeans" by T-Pain, Nelson performs a twerk dance while holding onto a stoplight in San-Francisco (shown below).[3]
Spread
In the following month, the video of Nelson twerking atop the stoplight was used in multiple humorous edits on Instagram and Facebook. For example, on July 14th, 2019, Instagram user tobeymaquirefan53 made a now-deleted post based on a final scene from 2019 superhero film Spider-Man: Far From Home. [4] A repost of the video on iFunny gained over 72,200 smiles in one month (shown below).[5]
