On February 17th, 2023, YouTuber^[1] Achieving Success posted the video "10 Signs You Are NOT A Sigma Male," garnering over 113,000 views in a year. The video's thumbnail features an old man staring forward and tenting his fingers next to the text, "Sorry you're not a sigma."

The thumbnail became the subject of memes throughout 2024. On February 10th, 2024, X^[2] user @Archful_ posted an edit of the thumbnail altering the text to read, "Not sorry… you're a sigma," garnering around two likes in eight months. This is the earliest known edit of the thumbnail.

On March 9th, 2024, the thumbnail was added to GameBanana^[3] as a Team Fortress 2 spray mod. On May 9th, X^[4] user @whte0wl posted a redraw of the thumbnail with a Regretevator0 character that garnered over 400 likes in five months.
