Sorry I Don't Talk In An UWU Voice is a viral video of streamer Hannah OwO saying, "sorry I don't talk in a UWU voice" then saying "UWU" in a childish voice. The clip, taken from Twitch, was posted to YouTube in August 2021 and went viral on TikTok and YouTube in early 2022 after being remixed with a song as the source of lip-dub videos and animated video edits.

Origin

The exact date that Hannah OwO, also known as NotAestheticallyHannah, said "Sorry I don't talk in an UWU voice" is unknown but comes from her Twitch stream. In the clip, Hannah is talking with someone online. She says to him, "Sorry I don't talk in an UWU voice, I don't know what you expected me to do," then raises her voice and says "UWU." On May 19th, 2021, YouTuber[1] NotAestheticallyHannah highlights posted the clip, gaining over 18 million views in a year (shown below). On September 1st, Hannah uploaded the clip to her YouTube[2] channel as part of a compilation of her saying "UWU," gaining over 1.6 million views in nine months.

On January 6th, 2022, TikToker[3] @vampire80s posted an edit of the clip adding music and effects to it, gaining over 946,000 views in five months (shown below, left). On January 20th, TikToker[4] @lnkjeohge2 posted a video remixing the clip with another song, transitioning outfits at a beat drop, gaining over 1,7 million views in five months (shown below, right).

The original sound by @Inkjeohge inspired over 7,000 videos on TikTok over the following months, most following the same format. For example, on February 25th, TikToker[5] @sherry.lim posted a video like this, gaining over 4.1 million views in four months (shown below).

On February 15th, 2022, TikToker[6] @shan.hadden posted a video following this format set to a new original sound consisting of the same audio edit. The original sound became even more prevalent, inspiring over 20,000 videos by June (notable examples shown below).

The audio clip also became popularized in AMVs and video edits on YouTube in the following months. On April 20th, YouTuber[7] iota posted an edit using the clip, gaining over 800,000 views in two months (shown below, left). On May 7th, YouTuber[8] jaqxx posted a Gacha edit using the audio, gaining over 500,000 views in a month (shown below, right).
