About

Sorry for X, It Will Happen Again is a phrasal template meme format in which a person apologizes for certain actions with a disclaimer that they do not intend to change their behavior. Spawned by a viral tweet, the snowclone gained popularity both as a textual format and in combination with an image of a kitten looking down at its hind paws. The captions on image macros are typically recaptioned to replace what the meme creator is apologizing for.

Origin

On March 7th, 2018, Twitter user @jsphdeal made a joke apology for ignoring other people's texts, writing that "it will 100% happen again in 5-7 business days." The tweet gained over 1,600 retweets and 4,700 likes prior to being removed (shown below).

For example, on March 12th, 2018, Facebook[1] page I don't like anything, I don't go outside posted a screenshot of the tweet, with the post gaining over 8,900 reactions and 6,600 shares in four years. On June 17th that year, Redditor Greatgooglymoogalie shared the screenshot in the /r/meirl[2] subreddit, where it received over 40,300 upvotes in four years.

On November 25th, 2019, YouTuber Nikita Dragun tweeted[3] a rephrased version of the tweet, with the post gaining over 30,400 retweets and 115,000 likes in three years (shown below, left). On July 11th, 2020, Twitter[4] user @farringt0n posted a version that gained over 8,300 retweets and 27,400 likes (shown below, right).
