Sonic Surrounded by Amy Plush Dolls is an image of a Sonic the Hedgehog plush toy with swirly eyes surrounded by many Amy Rose plush dolls. The image was taken by Amy Camacura, host of the Amy World blog, in October 2001 and gained viral spread throughout the 2000s, becoming the subject of redraws as early as 2023, which were popularized on X / Twitter in April 2024.

Origin

Sometime in October 2001, Amy Camacura, who runs the Japanese Amy Rose-themed blog Amy World,^[1]^[2]^[3] posted a series of two photos known as the "harem" photos. In one photo, Sonic is shown surrounded by Amy Rose plush dolls (shown below, left). In the second, Knuckles is shown surrounded by Rouge the Bat dolls (shown below, right).

The earliest known memetic use of the image of Sonic surrounded by Amy dolls is a YTMND site^[4] created by user Beau-Skunk on June 24th, 2006, consisting of a repetition of the photo while a voiceover of Sonic giving a PSA on inappropriate touching plays, garnering over 19,400 visits in 18 years.

Spread

The image gained viral spread throughout the 2000s leading into the 2020s. On November 30th, 2020, X^[5] user @nocontxtsonic posted the image, garnering over 8,900 likes in four years. On May 13th, 2021, the image was posted to /r/SonicTheHedgehog,^[6] garnering over 1,900 upvotes in three years.

On February 22nd, 2023, X^[7] artist @HistoriaAllen posted a redraw of the image, garnering over 8,600 likes and 1,600 reposts in a year (shown below, left). On February 25th, the artist posted a redraw of the Knuckles image to X,^[8] garnering over 5,200 likes in the same span of time (shown below, right). Both images were reposted to /r/SonicTheHedgehog^[9] on March 3rd, garnering over 1,400 upvotes in a year,

On April 30th, 2024, X^[10] user @VortigernsWife posted the Sonic and Amy photo, writing, "OK BUT WHAT IF WE DREW OUR SHIPS LIKE THIS…." garnering over 30,000 likes and 8,300 reposts in a week. The post inspired many redraws over the following week. For example, on May 1st, X^[11] user @PaniPancakes posted a Fate Stay Night redraw that gained over 3,300 likes in a week (shown below).

On May 6th, X^[12] user @FOULCUPID posted a Guilty Gear redraw that gained over 8,800 likes in three days (shown below, left). On May 8th, X^[13] user @Cheratoi posted a Bendy and the Ink Machine redraw that gained over 11,000 likes in a day (shown below, right).
