About

Sonic Frontiers Status refers to a series of bait-and-switch videos that end with the song "I'm Here" by Tomoya Ohtani and a scene from Sonic Frontiers to serve as a nonsensical punchline. The meme is inspired by other "X Status" memes like shitpost status and Reveangance Status and became popular on YouTube in November 2022 following the release of the game.

Origin

On November 8th, 2022, YouTuber[1] Dakster posted a video titled "Sonic Frontiers Status" using the babe please stop format where the nu-metal boss fight song from Sonic Frontiers, titled, "I'm Here," plays, garnering over 210,000 views in a week (shown below, left). On the same day, YouTuber[2] El Classic posted a more traditional bait-and-switch video with the title "Sonic Frontiers Status" where a scene from Spy x Family plays, followed by the same song and footage from Sonic Frontiers, garnering over 10,600 views in the same span of time (shown below, right). These are the earliest known version of the meme.

Spread

The format spread across YouTube over the following days in videos where an often lewd clip plays before cutting to the song and footage from the game. For example, on November 10th, YouTuber[3] Wasabii Laurant posted a version of the meme, garnering over 94,000 views in a week (shown below, left). On November 12th, YouTuber[4] 4G LTE posted another version of the meme, garnering over 142,000 views in five days (shown below, right).
