Sometimes That Midpack Be Hittin' Doe is a catchphrase used in ironic stoner memes to defend the smoking of mid- or low-grade weed, joking that it "hits good" sometimes. The phrase was first used in a 2017 meme using imagery from the TV show Maury where a man is accused of lying about "smoking loud." The meme became an exploitable over the following years, with the phrase popularized on its own in addition to being applied to various image macros and formats.
Origin
On December 21st, 2017, Redditor slammingcon138 posted a meme to /r/weed[1] consisting of four photoshopped images from an episode of Maury. In the first panel, Maury reads lie detector results accusing the guest of lying about smoking loud, revealing he only smokes mid. A woman yells "I told you he be smoking on dat bullshit Maury" as Maury looks distressed, followed by the accused captioned, "Sometimes that Mid Pack be hittin Doe." The post gained roughly 39 upvotes in six months (shown below). The /r/weed[2] user 808sandbeefsteaks reposted the meme with different cropping on February 18th, 2018, gaining roughly 135 upvotes in six months.
Spread
On February 15th, 2018, YouTuber[3] mitchuhh posted a video of the meme with added music, gaining over 2,600 views in just under four years (shown below). On September 9th, Redditor Hcasas13 posted a photoshopped version of the original meme to /r/PewdiepieSubmissions[4] replacing the bottom panel with "Elon Musk smoking a joint." On September 10th, VICE tweeted[5] an article about marijuana using the phrase "sometimes that mid pack be hittin tho" as the post text.
On September 22nd, 2020, iFunny[6] user TaxiDriver posted a meme using the phrase, gaining over 300 smiles in just over a year (shown below, left). On December 20th, iFunny[7] user summertimegladness posted a Doge meme using the phrase (shown below, right).
