Sometimes I Wonder How I Taste is a series of redraw memes based on a webcomic template where a character on the left (A) tells a character on the right (B) that it sometimes wonders how it tastes. Character B says it can help with that, followed by character A imagining the two kissing and character B imagining themselves biting character A. The template was posted to Twitter in June 2022 and gained viral spread over the following months as an exploitable meme format.

Origin

On June 16th, 2022, Twitter^[1] user and artist @MatteCashew32 posted a comic where one person on the left says to another on the right, "Sometimes I wonder how I taste lol." The person on the right responds, "I can help with that." The person on the left imagines them kissing and the person on the right imagines themselves biting the character on the left. The tweet gained over 5,800 likes and 1,500 retweets in two months (shown below).

Spread

The meme received viral spread that month after additional users online began sharing it and creating their own redraws. On June 16th, 2022, it was posted to /r/196,^[2] gaining over 7,500 upvotes in two months. On June 17th it was reposted to Tumblr,^[3] garnering over 120,000 notes in the same span of time. On June 18th it was then posted to /r/me_irl^[4] and /r/asexuality,^[5] gaining over 2,700 and 1,000 upvotes respectively in two months. On June 19th, Twitter^[6] user and artist @CherriFireLive posted a redraw of the meme using Amy and Surge the Tenrec from Sonic the Hedgehog, gaining over 21,500 likes and 3,000 retweets in two months (shown below).

On June 30th, Twitter^[7] artist @larszahng posted a redraw of the meme based on The Owl House, garnering over 40,000 likes and 4,900 retweets in a month (shown below, left). On July 18th, Deviant Art^[8] artist sansurichin posted a version of the meme using Minecraft characters, garnering over 14,000 views and 300 favorites in three weeks (shown below, right).
