About

Soft, Overrated, Pretty Boy, A Bitch is a catchphrase taken from a viral video clipped from the 2011 ESPN documentary The Fab Five in which the 1990s Michigan Wolverines men's basketball players Jalen Rose, Juwan Howard and Jimmy King are shown singling out Duke Blue Devils player Christian Laettner and insulting him. The clip went viral in 2022 after a series of memes using it began to circulate on Twitter and TikTok.

Origin

On March 13th, 2011, ESPN released a documentary named The Fab Five, which chronicled the careers, cultural impacts and scandals of the 1990s Michigan Wolverines men's basketball players known collectively as the "Fab Five" (Chris Webber, Jalen Rose, Juwan Howard, Jimmy King and Ray Jackson). The film was broadcast nationally and drew 2.7 million viewers, setting a record as the highest-rated ESPN documentary ever.[1] A trailer for the movie can be accessed via upload to the YouTube[2] channel Jalen Rose – JalenTV, where it gathered over 119,000 views in 11 years (seen below).

On January 11th, 2021, Twitter[3] user @ShireNation posted the clip from the documentary with the catchphrase "soft, overrated, pretty boy, a bitch," gathering over 200 likes in over a year (seen below). The clip was previously posted to YouTube as well.[4][5]

On December 2nd, Twitter[7] user @DaveMcNamee3000 then posted the most viral iteration of the meme on Twitter in 2022, saying "The other reindeer describing Rudolph," gathering over 50,000 likes in over a month (seen below).
