So I Blocked Gracie Abrams is a stan Twitter meme where people block Gracie Abrams over incidents unrelated to the pop star as a way of venting their anger and frustration over the said incident. The meme began as early as April 2023 and is purportedly inspired by a controversy where Abrams posted a photo of Finn Wolfhard from Stranger Things to her Instagram Story with the caption, "sticky situation: knowing he's 14 but still incredibly down," which many found inappropriate and predatory. The meme continued to prove popular on X / Twitter between 2023 and 2025.

Origin

As early as June 14th, 2022, an Instagram Story purportedly made by pop singer Gracie Abrams in 2017 resurfaced online. In the Story, she shares an image of Finn Wolfhard from Stranger Things as a minor and writes, "sticky situation: knowing he's 14 but still incredibly down."^[1] At the time, Abrams was 17 or 18 years old. The post spread over the following years and Abrams purportedly apologized for it in an Instagram post that has now been deleted.^[2]

This incident is often mentioned when the "blocked Gracie Abrams" meme is discussed online as the inciting factor, although there does not seem to be a direct correlation between the controversy and the first known instance of the meme.

On November 15th, 2022, X^[3] user @BOYSHIlT posted a screenshot showing that they blocked Gracie Abrams, writing, "ticketmaster went down so i blocked gracie abrams," garnering around two likes in three years. This is the earliest known version of the meme, although it is unconfirmed if it is the true origin.

On April 1st, 2023, X^[4] user @beenthearchers posted a screenshot showing that they blocked Gracie Abrams, writing, "taylor swift played clean when i wasn’t there so i blocked gracie abrams," garnering over 8,900 likes in two years.

On October 14th, 2024, X^[5] user @popsisunsteady posted, "gracie performed block me out without me so i blocked her out," garnering over 1,700 likes in 10 months. On February 3rd, 2025, Redditor u/Serevania posted a version of the meme to the /r/Clairo^[6] subreddit reading, "Clairo didn’t win a Grammy so I blocked Gracie Abrams," garnering over 1,200 upvotes in six months.

On March 29th, TikToker^[7] @noyawithfish2 posted a video of themselves enjoying a nice day, captioned, "it's so beautiful out so i blocked gracie abrams," garnering over 2.3 million views in five months.

On July 14th, X^[8] user @g1bsongirl_ posted a photograph of artist Ethel Cain captioned, "She’s so cute I had to block Gracie Abrams," garnering over 3,100 likes in a month. On July 27th, X^[9] user @bvmpinthatt posted a screenshot of a Roblox player named Gracie Abrams, writing, "there's nothing left to do, so i blocked gracie abrams on roblox," garnering over 14,000 likes in a month.

On August 14th, X^[10] user @pablosorianov posted, "lana del rey and ethel cain are fighting, so i blocked gracie abrams," garnering over 64,000 likes and 6,000 reposts in a day.
