Origin

The earliest known example of the image was posted on October 1st, 2013 on the website Angelisms[1] posted an image of children playing in a river and children on their cellphone. The post is captioned "So glad I grew up doing this not this" with the children in the river being viewed in the affirmative.

Three years later, on April 25th, 2016, Redditor [3] igherfydrant posted the image in the /r/drugmemes subreddit featuring the children in the river replaced by an image of a Ketamine bottle. The post (shown below, left) received more than 100 points (99% upvoted).

On April 28th, 2016, the original image was shared by the Instagram [2] user @businessmindset101, who received more than 8,800 likes for the post.

About three weeks later, on May 19th, FunnyJunk [4] user raviance posted the image in which a photograph of a boy smoking a cigarette replaced the image of the children in the river. The post (shown below, center) received more than 900 views in two years.

On July 2nd, 2016, Imgur [5] user bronyslayer posted a version in which two children are using cocaine. The post (shown below, right) received more than 270 views in two years.
