So Close!! That Is A Shape 💕 is a memorable tweet posted by X / Twitter user @dolphin_dom in May 2020. The user posted the catchphrase in response to someone asking if star fruit counts as a fruit named after a color. Screenshots of the amusing interaction spread online in subsequent months, with "So close!! That is X" becoming a phrasal template meme in the following years.

Origin

On May 22nd, 2020, X / Twitter user @dolphin_dom posted a tweet claiming that blueberries are the only fruit named after a color. The user then fielded suggestions from other people, with one person saying, "star fruit?" This led to @dolphin_dom replying with, "So close!! That is a shape 💕."

While @dolphin_dom's X profile has since been deleted, the interactions were documented by X[1] user @colynelliott in a post made on the same day that gathered over 338,000 likes in four years (seen below).



Spread

On December 31st, 2022, X[2] user @LysLightRchd replied to a failed attempt at writing 2023 in ASCII, saying, "So close! That is a shape ⭐" The post gathered over 21,000 likes in two years (seen below, left). On March 20th, 2023, X[3] user @homesweethomo quoted someone calling a Staraptor a "GOAT pokémon," writing, "so close! That is a bird 💜," and gathering over 30,000 likes in a year (seen below, right).



On October 4th, 2023, Redditor[4] /u/DEADWW posted an edited version of the original screenshots to reflect different characters from /r/NikkeMobile games. The post gathered over 500 upvotes in six months (seen below, left). On November 11th, X[5] user @PeachyKneeSocks quoted a post about women dominating the Grammy's, writing, "So close! That is Dave Grohl ❤️." The post gathered over 11,000 likes in five months (seen below, right).
