"So… Chunks, Huh?" refers to a line from Nintendo's _Super Mario Galaxy in which a penguin approaches Mario and says "So… chunks, huh?", referring to the in-game collectibles known as star bits. In the summer of 2017, the phrase became a minor meme on Tumblr.

Origin

In 2007's Super Mario Galaxy, a penguin approaches Mario and asks "So… chunks, huh?" (GIF shown below).

The above GIF was posted to Tumblr on January 15th, 2016 by sonysportswalkman^[1] and gained over 23,000 notes, though the account's original name has since been changed.

Spread

According to Meme Documentation, ^[2] the genesis for the phrase becoming a Tumblr meme was a text post from August 4th by sweetbabyraysgourmetsauces^[3] that reads "plap plap plap plap So… chunks, huh? plap plap plap plap." The post has over 20,000 notes.

Since then, there have several jokes using the phrase have been posted to Tumblr, though not many have received many notes. Popular examples include a post from valucard^[4] of a picture of konpeito, a Japanese candy that looks like the chunk collectible from the game, gaining over 7,700 notes (shown below, left). A post by transfemale^[5] photoshopped the image to look like a JoJo's Bizarre Adventure card and gained over 2,200 notes (shown below, right). Meme Documentation officially covered "So… Chunks, Huh?" on September 7th, 2017.
