Snowbunny Mind Control is a slang expression which describes attractive white women having a power over Black men, and men in general, and being able to control and manipulate them with their charm. The expression has frequently been used to describe Black men getting drawn to a certain media such as a show or a video game due to liking white female characters in it. Spawned by a YouTube thumbnail for a video about white women having significant influence on the underground rap scene, the catchphrase saw spread online in the form of a reaction image starting in June 2024.

Origin

Snow bunny, also spelled snowbunny, is a slang word for a a white woman with a preference for Black men, and has been used in this meaning since the late 2010s.[1][2] Since then, the word has also been used to describe attractive white women in general. Earlier, word has earlier been used to describe attractive women who were into skiing and snowboarding.

On May 29th, 2024, YouTube[3] user saintlysilas posted a video titled "White Girls Control Underground Music" in which they opined that white woman have a large influence on the underground hip-hop scene as they often help artists go viral by using them in their TikToks, with artists starting to cater to them. The thumbnail image for the video used photographs of a young white woman and rapper Lazer Dim 700 picking his nose paired with the caption "Snowbunny Mind Control" (shown below).

On June 2nd, 2024, Instagram[4] page xboxheadset reposted the thumbnail together with the title of the video, with the post garnering over 2,300 likes. On June 3rd, Redditor TroncoBoy made a similar post in the /r/Hiphopcirclejerk[5] subreddit. Later that day, X[6] gimmick account @YtThumbnails reposted the thumbnail, with the post (shown below) gaining over 150 reposts and 2,000 likes six months.

Spread

On July 4th, 2024, X[7] user @Ukagaka_Tengu made the earliest found viral post which used the thumbnail as a reaction image, commenting on another user giving a positive review of the gacha game Zenless Zone Zero, implying that they got drawn by its attractive white female characters. The post (shown below) received over 1,300 reposts and 24,000 likes in six months.

In the following months, the reaction image saw viral spread online, popularizing the expression. For example, on July 23rd, 2024, X[8] user @ATLienMJ wrote, "Just saw one of my mutuals become #BewitchedByTheBunny", posting the image. The post (shown below) received over 90 reposts and 2,300 likes in five months.

In December 2024 the expression and the reaction image saw a surge in popularity online due to the recent releases of the second season of the animated series Arcane, in which Black character Ekko is drawn to white character Jinx, and the hero shooter video game Marvel Rivals which featured characters such as Squirrel Girl and Luna Snow. For example, on December 9th, 2024, X[9] user @DatChaosGuy made a post about "Jinx and Squirrel Girl brainrot" (shown below) that received over 880 reposts and 14,000 likes in three weeks.
