Snoop Dogg Says Only One Person Has Out Smoked Him refers to an exploitable template in which meme creators insert a different character imagined to be the only person who has smoked more weed than rapper Snoop Dogg who's a notorious stoner. The infographic, similar to a RapTV headline, was posted to Instagram in late 2021 by the account HOODSFINEST (@thehoodsfinest) and the actual person who out smoked Snoop Dogg was country music star Willie Nelson. The meme template became commonplace on Instagram, Twitter and iFunny, among other platforms, going into 2022 and 2023.

Origin

On November 23rd, 2021, the Instagram^[1] account @thehoodsfinest posted an infographic showing Snoop Dogg with a bottom caption reading in all caps, "SNOOP DOGG SAYS ONLY ONE PERSON HAS OUT SMOKED HIM." The post gained roughly 228,400 likes in a year and a half (shown below, left). Inherently, the infographic was about a 2018 quote from Snoop Dogg about Willie Nelson being the only person who's out-smoked him.^[2] Months later, on August 20th, 2022, Instagram^[3] user @halfvampirehalfsuccubus posted a re-edited version of the image, moving Snoop Dogg to the left side and inserting Hideo Kojima, gaining roughly 5,000 likes in 10 months (shown below, right).

Currently, Instagram^[3] user @halfvampirehalfsuccubus' post is the first discovered instance of the meme despite it appearing that Kojima's photo is layered over a different photo, likely showing a different person or character.

Spread

The meme featuring Kojima on the right side spread to other platforms soon after. For instance, on August 21st, 2021, iFunnier^[4] @free_twovie reposted it, gaining roughly 7,100 smiles in 10 months.

Also, variations of the template soon surfaced, the earliest of which was shared by Instagram^[5] user @bapybara a few hours later on August 20th, featuring a capybara with the hand from ¿Quieres? The post received roughly 141,700 likes in 10 months (shown below, left). On August 28th, 2022, Instagram^[6] user @grapejuiceboys shared an iteration with the smoking rat from Change Da World… My Final Message, gaining roughly 69,400 likes in 10 months (shown below, right).

Variations then spread across social media, such as a cat meme posted by Tumblr^[7] user roach000fister on September 8th, 2022, gaining roughly 12,300 notes in nine months (shown below, left). On September 27th, 2022, Twitter^[8] user @smallmonkyjdee posted an iteration with the Small Monkey In John Deere Overalls, gaining roughly 18,000 likes in nine months (shown below, right).

Memetic usage of the template persisted going into early 2023.^[9]^[10]
