About

Smiling Makeup Monkey is a viral video of a monkey dressed up with clothes, jewelry and bright red lipstick smiling at the camera. The video is typically used to depict a clueless or dimwitted attitude, with people using the video in conjunction with the phrasal template "me after X." The clip originates from a Likee upload, an app similar to TikTok, sometime in 2020. It was then reposted to YouTube, after which it was turned into low-quality GIFs and screen recorded to be shared further, becoming used in memes on TikTok around 2021.
