Smiling Friends Dap Up, also known as Mr. Boss Dapping Up Pim, refers to a rotoscoped scene in the Adult Swim animated series Smiling Friends in which the character Mr. Boss daps up and hugs Pim. In the scene from season 3, episode 5, titled, "Pim and Charlie Save Mother Nature," Mr. Boss tells his employees that he has the video game Super Monkey Ball on the GameCube at his getaway cabin. Pim says, "Oh, I love Super Monkey Ball," and Mr. Boss responds, "Dude, you like Super Monkey Ball? Pim, bro, I knew I liked you, dude. Come here, bring it in, brother."

The Smiling Friends Dap Up scene went viral on Twitter / X ahead of the episode's release and quickly became a reaction video and GIF, used in GIF Captions and tweets. The scene also became an exploitable as some creators added Impact Frames to it or edited it in other ways. The Smiling Friends Twitter also released the original video used to rotoscope the scene following the fan interest.

Origin

On November 6th, 2025, Adult Swim uploaded an early preview on YouTube[1] for season 3, episode 5, of Smiling Friends, titled, "Pim and Charlie Save Mother Nature."[9]

At the video's 29-second mark, Mr. Boss is shown telling the employees about his cabin's amenities, including Super Monkey Ball on the GameCube. Pim says back, "Oh, I love Super Monkey Ball," and then Mr. Boss begins a dap up motion while saying, "Dude, you like Super Monkey Ball? Pim, bro, I knew I liked you, dude. Come here, bring it in, brother." Over eight days, the video gained over 619,900 views.

On that same day, X[2] user @adifying reposted the clip on X,[2] gaining over 6.3 million views and 55,000 likes in eight days.

On November 6th, 2025, X[3] user @DatChaosGuy quote-tweeted @adifying, writing, "Someone PLEASE add impact frames to that dap it would be a generational gif," gaining over 89,000 likes in eight days.

In the post's replies, several users fulfilled the request, like X[4] user @idkwhatisthis32 on November 6th, receiving over 35,000 likes in eight days.



Also on November 6th, 2025, X[5] user @Le_Unorthodox posted a moldy, low-quality version of the GIF, adding the caption, "Finn and Ice King after they squashed the beef," referring to the Adventure Time characters. Over eight days, the post garnered over 37,000 likes.



On November 9th, X[6] user @Softwarecrow quote-tweeted a different post using the original clip, writing, "Colourblindness is so weird, I only just realised that Pim isn't shirtless in this," gaining over 8,500 likes in five days.

Later on that same day, X[7] user @Softwarecrow quote-tweeted thier post, attaching an edited version of the clip with Pim shirtless, captioned, "Just a glimpse into my dark reality." Over five days, the post gained over 48,000 likes.


On November 12th, 2025, TikToker[8] @shrewoffline shared an Accuracy Reenactment of the Smiling Friends Dap Up scene, gaining over 391,100 likes in two days.

Original Rotoscope Video

On November 11th, 2025, the official @SmilingFriends X[10] account shared the original video used to rotoscope the Smiling Friends Dap Up scene, showing the show's co-creator and voice of Pim, Michael Cusack, and show contributor, Dario Russo. Over three days, the tweet received over 90,000 likes.
