Smelvin Is Approaching refers to a viral tweet showing a DoorDash notification that says "Smelvin is approaching," the Twitter user writing, "not letting this nigga near my door step." A screenshot of the tweet gained viral spread across social media as an exploitable format, especially on Instagram, often with a menacing reaction image attached depicting Smelvin's approach.
Origin
On February 28th, 2022, now-deleted Twitter user @suuunx5 posted a screenshot of a DoorDash notification that reads, "Smelvin is approaching." The user writes, "not letting this nigga near my door step," suggesting the name Smelvin is suspicious or strange. The tweet has since been deleted along with the user. The earliest known repost of the tweet was posted on March 27th, 2022, by Instagram[1] user squidyz, gaining over 32,400 likes in just over a month (shown below).
Spread
The screenshot gained viral spread on social media in early 2022. It was reposted by Facebook[2] page Memes to satisfy the sophisticated gentleman on March 28th, 2022, gaining over 1,800 reactions and 930 shares in a month. A cropped version was posted to Instagram[3] page tiddyfuckthalasagna on March 30th, gaining over 34,000 likes in a month. On April 24th, Instagram[4] user matthew.niverse posted a video showing the meme with a reaction video of an inky black character walking forward, representing Smelvin, gaining over 28,000 views in a week (shown below). On April 26th, Instagram[5] page repostrandy reposted the meme, gaining over 146,000 views in five days.
Also on April 26th, Instagram[6] user stinksmelly posted a version of the meme showing a Standing Cat as a representation of Smelvin, gaining over 481,000 views in five days (shown below, left). On May 1st, Instagram[7] user realstiffy posted a version of the meme using the Punisher's 'No, No, No, Wait, Wait, Wait' format, gaining over 671,000 views in a day (shown below, right).
