About

Smashed and Slammed is a slang term used to describe the build and appearance of specifically bred bulldogs, including Toadline bullies, a controversial, unrecognized breed of bulldog bred to appear stocky and muscular. The term has been used online since as early as 2014 by the Toadline breeders and spread over the following years in memes as a comedic way to refer to dogs with the "smashed and slammed" build. The term is often used in posts by breeders, such as ToadLine breeders, to sell the dogs. The slang is also related to the 2X Pimpy 3X Bape meme.

Origin

The earliest known use of the terms "smashed and slammed" was posted to the ToadLine Facebook[1] page, a page for ToadLine[2] breeders, on March 14th, 2014, in a post advertising the bulldog Snarf. The post reads, "BIG BAD TOADLINE SNARF… THE KRYPTOAD!! NEED EXTREME BONE AND SUBSTANCE ON SLAMMED DOWN FRAME WITH A HUGE HEAD AND A SMASHED MUG? THEN WHY WAIT?…… GET SNARF'D!!" (shown below, left).

The page continued to use the term over the following years to describe the physical traits of the dogs. On April 22nd, 2015, the same Facebook[3] page posted a photo of a dog named Heisenberg, writing in their description, "BONE GIRTH SMASHED AND SLAMMED!!!" (shown below, right).

Spread

The terms "smashed and slammed" spread online over the following years, particularly on 4chan, often used in an ironic sense, alongside images of dogs who might fit the "smashed and slammed" descriptor. On April 29th, 2017, an anonymous user of 4chan's /tv/[4] board posted an image macro of a bully with the word "SMASHED" under it, resulting in several other users posting bullies and using the terms (shown below). One anon posted a screenshot of the Toadline "Heisenberg" post using the term.[5]

The breeding of Toadline bullies has been criticized online by many as inhumane, with the dogs purportedly having a list of health problems and a life expectancy of only around four to six years, largely due to heavy, purposeful inbreeding.

On June 15th, 2022, Redditor The_Golden_Warthog made a post to the /r/BanPitBulls[10] subreddit sharing images of the dogs and criticizing them, garnering over 1,200 upvotes and 250 comments in roughly two years (seen below). On July 14th, u/trashmoneyxyz made a post to /r/ruinedbreeds[6] titled "What the @*$& are 'Toadline Bullies'?!" sharing their purported health problems and why they're inhumane to breed and keep, garnering over 190 upvotes in two years.

On January 23rd, 2023, X[7] user @1d34h4z4rd made a post about the eccentric way that bulldog breeders advertise their bulldogs, resulting in X[8] user @CrackedTeaCup responding with two images of Toadline-like dogs, writing, "Could use a bit more SMASHED and SLAMMED toadline," garnering over 200 likes in a year (shown below, left). X[9] user @SPITFIREVA similarly responded using the phrase, garnering over 900 likes in the same span of time (shown below, right).

Various Examples

2X Pimpy 3X Bape / Pimpy Son Opp

2X Pimpy 3X Bape, also known as Pimpy Son Opp, refers to a catchphrase that originates from XL Bully Graphics made by American dog breeders. In 2022, the Instagram page @m1ndsetbullies posted a graphic advertising their new dog "Dough Boy," bred twice from a dog named Pimpy and three times from a dog named Bape. The poster advertising the inbred dog was shared on X in 2022, with jokes about "Two times Pimpy, three times Bape" making the rounds in early 2024.
