Slutty MacBook Selfie refers to a seductive selfie photograph taken with the frontal camera of a MacBook laptop, or any other computer camera. In early October 2024, the trend of taking such selfies and sharing them achieved virality on social media following a post reminiscing about the time when making such photos was more popular.

Origin

"MacBook seflie" refers to a seflie photograph taken with the frontal camera on a MacBook laptop, a line of Mac laptops sold by Apple Inc.. A large amount of selfies taken with MacBook laptops can be found online^[1]^[2]^[3] (example shown below). The practice of taking such photographs saw a decline as the quality of mobile phone cameras increased sharply in the early 2010s.

On August 9th, 2024, X^[4] user @junobrat made a post in which they reminisced about "slutty macbook selfies", calling them a lost form of art that should be brought back. The post (shown below) garnered over 105 million views, 22,000 reposts and 109,000 likes in two months.

Later on August 9th, 2024, X^[5] user @elonaine made a post referencing the earlier tweet, writing, "beautiful asian girl taking slutty macbook selfie SAVE ME.." The post (shown below) garnered over 8,000 reposts and 23,000 likes in two months.

On October 1st, 2024, X^[6] user @romagoesinsane quoted @junobrat's post with a seductive selfie presumably made with a laptop camera. The post (shown below) received over 18 million views, 19,000 reposts and 426,000 likes in one week.

In the following days, the "slutty MacBook selfie" trend achieved viral popularity on X / Twitter as users shared selfie photographs made with MacBooks or other laptops. For example, on October 2nd, 2024, X^[7] user @VitorStevam_ shared a photograph that gained over 4,000 reposts and 84,000 likes in five days.
