Origin

Between March 31st and April 1st, 2020, several members of the webcomic community joined together in an April Fools’ Day prank where they placed the Sloof logo in their comics, usually via characters wearing a T-shirt. Also on March 31st, the Instagram[1] account for Sloofco was created utilizing a grid layout with the logo and text “April Fools!” (shown below), as well as the creation of a store page on Teespring[2] selling various apparel for the brand with 100 percent of the profits going to the Wildlife Conservation Society.

Spread

One such participant in the prank was comic artist Wooden Plank Studios,[3] who published a comic featuring the logo on March 31st, 2020, to their website. In the comic (seen below), a player character from Animal Crossing New Horizons can be seen wearing a shirt with the image.

Early in the morning on April 1st, 2020, the Ninja & Pirate[4] comic series also participated in the event, with the ninja seen wearing a pink Sloof tank-top throughout the panels. The post (shown below), titled “SLOOF Co Announcement,” also describes the collaboration within the word bubbles between the pirate and ninja.

DeviantArt [5] artist mythkaz also published a comic with Sloof on April 1st, 2020. The illustration (seen below) received nearly 900 views, 44 favorites and 16 comments.

Several comics depicting the Sloof logo then made their way over to Reddit, particularly on the r/comics sub. Redditor[6] MurkyWay (creator of the Swords comic series) posted their creation on April 1st, 2020, to the r/comics sub (shown below) and received over 1,100 upvotes and 21 comments.

On Instagram,[7] comic artist False Knees also took part in the event, posting their comic to their account on April 1st, 2020. The post, which sneakily placed the logo on a piece of trash in the drawing, received nearly 94,000 likes (seen below).
