TikTok's Voice Changer, also known as TikTok Audio Editing Feature, TikTok Voice Filters, TikTok Voice Effects or TikTok AI Voice Changer, refers to a TikTok feature similar to text-to-speech that was added in October 2022 and changes the TikToker's voice after the video is recorded to sound like a girl (Chipmunk), various accents and other characters. Interest in how to do the new TikTok voice changer sparked interest across the web as creators used it for their voices, as well as the voices of musicians, rappers, influencers and TV shows.

History

On October 27th, 2022, TikTok released a new update called Version 26.6.1 as per the Apple app store. Among many new features, the update included a new tab in the editing studio called "Audio Editing" in which the video creator could alter the sound of their voice after recording. Multiple tutorials on how to use TikTok's voice changer surfaced in late October 2022.

Predominantly starting on October 29th, 2022, TikTokers started noticing the new feature in their editing studios and began uploading reactionary content. For instance, on October 29th, TikToker^[1] chloemarieh3nn3s posted a tutorial on how to use the feature in which she had a deep, male voice. The TikTok received roughly 1.7 million plays and 27,800 likes in two days (shown below, left). Also on October 29th, TikToker^[2] casperthefriendlyghos..t posted a tutorial video, gaining roughly 1.3 million plays and 22,100 likes in two days (shown below, right).

Usage in Memes

Again, predominantly starting on October 29th, 2022, humorous usage of TikTok's voice changer surfaced. For instance, on October 29th, Australian TikToker^[3] teenagemi1f posted a video in which she used the voice changer to give herself an American accent, gaining roughly 3.3 million plays and 723,400 likes in two days (shown below, left). Also on October 29th, 2022, verified TikToker^[4] ricotaquito posted a video in which he sang a Nicki Minaj song and used the baby girl voice filter, gaining roughly 1.1 million plays and 219,000 likes in two days (shown below, right).

Other usage surfaced that included famous music and songs such as a video posted by TikToker^[5] sleeposucks on October 30th, 2022, in which they used the girl voice changer for a Yeat song. The video received roughly 1.1 million plays and 228,700 likes in one day (shown below, left). Also on October 30th, 2022, TikToker^[6] lucyl96_ posted a video that used the voice changer over an episode of Glee, gaining roughly 1 million plays and 210,700 likes in one day (shown below, right).
