The Right Stuff is a dating app marketed towards conservative and right-wing Americans. The app was created by former Trump aide John McEntee and funded by tech investor Peter Theil. The app was first announced and launched in 2022, with an advertisement featuring various women promoting the app gaining attention in September 2022. The app also drew attention after some users reported getting calls from the FBI after submitting their reply to a sign-up question enquiring about their whereabouts on January 6th, although spokespersons for the app have denied the reports.

History

On February 15th, 2022, Twitter^[1] user @axios posted a tweet that read, "NEW: Peter Thiel is injecting $1.5 million into a seed round for "The Right Stuff," a new conservative dating app founded by former Trump aide John McEntee," gathering over 300 likes in over a year (seen below). The article linked was reposted by various users.^[2][3]

Developments

On August 10th, 2022, the app launched a promotion video featuring former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany's sister Ryann. The video was shared by Twitter^[4] user @RonFilipkowski, gathering over 6,000 likes in over seven months (seen below).

On September 29th, 2022, YouTube^[5] account DateRightStuff posted an advertisement for the app, gathering over 70,000 views in over five months (seen below).

Reactions

Various internet commenters reacted to news about the app's launch and its various promotional videos. Common topics of conversation in regard to the app was the supposed imbalance of the app's male to female ratio, as well as a sign-up prompt on the app that asked the users' whereabouts on January 6th.

On September 30th, Twitter^[6] user @ShawnMcCreesh posted a tweet showing two screenshots of prompts from the app that ask about January 6th and about the user's "favorite liberal lie." The post gathered over 2,000 likes in over four months (seen below).

On October 4th, Twitter^[7] user @mattxiv posted a tweet noting that they predicted the January 6th prompt on the app, gathering over 25,000 likes in over four months (seen below).

Also on October 4th, Twitter^[8] user @YouCantHelpHer posted a tweet that read, "I can't fucking believe this. i looked at the reviews for "The Right Stuff" dating app and it asks you during registration if you attended jan 6th. if you say yes, the feds try to pin domestic terrorism charges on you. outstanding," gathering over 10,000 likes in over four months (seen below).
