Styro Mike and Styro Steve are social media gimmick accounts that document two men collecting their girlfriends' hair every day and sticking it to a styrofoam head with tape. Styro Mike opened accounts on Instagram and TikTok in late September 2024, garnering over 150,000 collective followers by December of that year. That same month, Styro Steve opened an account on X / Twitter. Styro Steve was criticized by some users for ripping off Styro Mike, especially after promoting a Styro Steve meme coin following the virality of his first post.

History

Styro Mike

On September 26th, 2024, the @thestyrofoamhead TikTok^[1] account and styro.mike Instagram^[2] account were opened. On that day, the first video was posted to each, in which the account owner sticks a few strands of his girlfriend's hair to a styrofoam head, writing, "Day 1 of collecting hair of my girlfriend so that this guy will no longer be bald." The video gained over 3.4 million views on the former and 465 likes on the latter in three months.

Styro Mike continued to post daily update videos on the progress of the styrofoam head. On November 15th, he posted an update video in which he attaches eyebrows to Mike, garnering over 45,000 views in a month.^[3]

Styro Steve

On December 15th, 2024, the X^[4] page @SteveStyro posted a photo of a styrofoam head with a few strands of hair taped to the side of the head, writing, "Day one of collecting my girlfriend’s hair and put it on Styro Steve," garnering over 108,000 likes and 5,900 reposts in a day. Styro Steve purportedly claims that his girlfriend is unaware that he attaches her hair to the styrofoam head.

About four hours later, the account posted the link to a meme coin based on Styro Steve as a comment,^[5] writing, "Alright someone started a Styro Steve memecoin. I want in." The coin is hosted on pump.fun.^[6]

On December 16th, the X^[7] page posted a day-two update on Styro Steve, garnering over 6,000 likes in under 24 hours.

Online Presence

Styro Steve became notably popular on X following his first post, resulting in several notable reactions. On November 15th, 2024, X^[8] user @myfriendcallie quote-reposted the day one post, writing, "kind of mad that my bf isn’t doing this. think I'm gonna start a fight," garnering over 10,000 likes in a day.
