History

On July 4th, 2019, the /r/QAnonCasulaties subreddit launched by Redditor Squawkomodile.[1] The subreddit describes itself as:

Do you have a loved one who's been taken in by the QAnon conspiracy theory? Look here for emotional support and a place to vent.

That day, Squawkomodile posted the first submission for the subreddit.[3] They wrote:

Either way, feel free to engage however you feel comfortable. Make a post venting all the pent-up feelings about your Q-mom that nobody else quite understands. Commiserate in the comments. Share resources and tactics that have helped you cope or helped you bring your loved ones back to the real world. Share any ideas you might have to make this sub a good and comforting place for people and keep it that way. Please don't hesitate to send me a message if you'd like me to consider making you a mod.

As for me, my mom has been into QAnon since it got started. The ignorance, bigotry, and refusal to question "the plan" have only gotten worse over time. I'm always torn between stopping communication with her because it only seems to make me feel terrible, and feeling like it's my responsibility to try to lead her back to reality. We barely talk anymore, but when we did, she used nearly every conversation as an "in" to bring up Q. If she couldn't find any connection at all, she would just change the subject to shoehorn it in. She genuinely believes about me… the same thing I believe about her. That she's being immature, irresponsible, ignorant, and refusing to think critically.
